Respect yourself first

"If you must love your neighbor as yourself, it is at least as fair to love yourself as your neighbor."
- Sebastien-Roch Nicolas

In fact, it is important that you love yourself first. That means neither narcissism nor egocentrism, but that you must respect yourself totally before you have the ability to respect others.

If you can't respect yourself, all you have to offer others is the fealty of a slave or someone who is beholden. These are not qualities that others commonly look for in friends.

You must be your own best friend because you are the only friend you can realistically expect to stay with your for your whole life.
